A Spring Wedding at Chestnut Ridge in Asheville, NC
Kate and John’s spring wedding at Chestnut Ridge was beautiful and so much fun! Together with Jen of Green Mountain Photo and Films I first met Kate and John for their engagement session at the Biltmore Estate. After spending just a short amount of time with these two it was obvious that they LOVE not only each other but also life, God and laughter! So much laughter filled their engagement session and again on their wedding day!
Kate & John’s Story
This adorable couple met at Western Carolina University in 2010 when they both worked similar on-campus jobs. Strictly platonic friends for two years, their relationship sparked over a simple conversation during an evening stroll around campus. Their bond grew as they discovered their shared love for adventure — traveling, hiking — and slow Sundays spent sipping wine, cooking dinner, and couch cruising to Netflix.
Kate and John love spending time outdoors, and catching an extra hour of sleep on the weekends. Their perfect day would mean sleeping in, fitting in a quick workout before brunch, then spending the afternoon playing disc golf or hiking with friends.
What John loves about Kate: Her deep love of family, empathetic spirit, intelligence, kind-heartedness, and beauty.
What Kate loves about John: His friendly demeanor, optimistic personality, and fierce loyalty to his family and friends.
Wedding Details
Sharing such a close bond with her family, Kate opted to do a “First Reveal” with her dad and brother before the wedding hour chimed. The mile-wide smiles and bear hugs said it all. Watching a parent behold their little girl in her wedding dress for the first time is always such a powerful moment.
Kate and John chose to do a “First Look, No Peeking” in her bridal suite. Standing back-to-back and holding hands, they shared a private moment and a laugh before heading to the aisle. Every one left the room feeling awed by the love so evidently held between the bride and groom.
The father-daughter dance started with a slow Tim McGraw ballad that triggered waterworks from every guest in the room. Then all of a sudden, the song changed to a dance-floor booty shaker that sent the crowd wild! Kate and her dad showed off some pretty awesome dance moves. Unexpected moments like that always get wedding guests revved up for a good time!
Joy Unscripted added their personal touch to several items within the wedding design, including handwritten signage, ceremony programs, seating charts, menus, and monogrammed tags.
Guests took home darling succulents wrapped in brown paper as their wedding favor. The plants-as-gifts signified Kate and John’s love for the outdoors, and brought additional pops of color and greenery to their table scape floral design.
Without Western Carolina University, Kate and John may have never met. Holding a special place in their hearts for their alma mater, the couple arranged for the WCU Catamount mascot to make an appearance!
